Volleyball Rules

General:

  • Normal indoor 6v6 rules even though its outside

  • Games are played to one set of 18 points.

  • A team can only consist 2 players out of District NOT Subregion (Please refer to the district map)

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct has penalties (sit out for 3 points) -judged by the referee

  • Intentionally having a team of 4 brothers is banned

    • If a team is missing people, then for every full rotation they lose a point for every player missing


Rotation:

  • If running a libero, they have to substitute with the same gender

  • No machine gunning (Having one middle instead of two)

  • A team needs to have 2 sisters on the court at all times.

  • During serve/receive, players must stay in their base position, i.e., behind/in front of or to the right/left of their adjacent positions. (please see the image for reference)

Example: Position 1 cannot be in front of position 2 or to the left of position 6.


In Play Rules:

  • Doubles are illegal (typically when there is excessive rotation on the ball after a set, it is deemed a double.)

    • For the serve and hard-driven ball, doubles are allowed

  • Excessive holding of the ball is illegal

  • Net touching is illegal (Shirt & hair touching does not count)

  • Foot fault during play - a full foot over the middle line constitutes a loss of the point. even if it doesn’t affect the play.

    • Foot fault during serving results in loss of points - when any part of the foot touches the line

  • Out of bounds - imagine there is an invisible pole pointing straight out of the net poles. The ball cannot enter the opponent’s court from the outside of the invisible pole.

  • A block does not count as a touch. A team gets 3 touches after a hit touches a block.


3v3 and 2v2

Normal outdoor rules

  • Sister 2v2 courts are smaller in size.

  • Sister VB separated from Brother VB

  • Games to 18 for 3v3, games to 21 for 2v2


In Play Rules:

  • When making a handset attack (AKA overset), The play must be clean, and the ball must be directed perpendicular to the setter’s shoulders.

  • Tipping is not allowed. Tipping is constituted as an attack using open fingers.

  • Attacks must be hard contact

  • No let serves. A serve that hits the net is a fault.
